Linda Nagata: the blog at Hahví.net

UPS just delivered the proof copy of The Dread Hammer’s print version. I have to approve the proof before the book goes on sale.

My first thought was, “It’s gorgeous!”

Then I started flipping through the book, showing off the cool layout to my husband when suddenly my gaze alighted on the left-hand-page header where the author’s name appears. That looks really good too, except that it says “Linda Nagata” when the cover and the copyright insist this was written by my pen name, Trey Shiels.

What a dumb mistake. So frustrating. So costly.

I’m resisting the urge to send in an instant correction. Might as well sit down with the book and look for more errors. This is one of those times when it would be really nice to have an assistant editor looking over my shoulder.

I guess my schedule’s blown.

On the brighter side, I’m glad you were able to catch this before the final prinprint!

True. It’s just hard to swallow that I did the layout, printed out the sample page, looked over every single page of the final file, and still failed to realize that for this book that isn’t my name! * Sigh *

I just finished the electronic version, and enjoyed it a lot. Nice ending. When is the next one coming? (Just kidding, sort of…)

(I figure a good review, even if brief, is always something that ought to cheer an author up… 🙂

Thanks Ted! Yes, a nice review always helps a lot. Glad to know you enjoyed it!

Well I’m just looking forward to actually buying one of your print books new. My entire collection of your works has been gleamed from from a local bookstore selling used copies.

Though I have a love for Science Fiction, I’m not ready to jump into using an e-reader. I still prefer paper.

Thank you very much! I was working on the layout for The Bohr Maker just last night. I’m planning to use the same interior design for all four of The Nanotech Succession books, so hopefully it will go pretty quickly once I settle on the look. Let me know if you want to get on my email list, and then I can let you know when the books come out. You can reply here, email me direct, or use the little form at the upper right of this page. Otherwise, just keep checking back here.
