On to the next one…
June 7th, 2012Two days ago I started brainstorming a new novel, a near-future thriller. It’s a mash-up of some ideas that came to me while writing short stories, and of course there’s no guarantee that it will go anywhere. Maybe I’ll abandon it in a week. Also, I have doubts that a general audience will find this sort of book — if it turns out to be as I envision — credible, coming from someone with an old-fashioned, feminine name like mine. But whatever. I’m kind of excited about it because I’m seeing a lot of potential. So — onwards!

That “old-fashioned, feminine name” sounds suspiciously sexist. I am quite fond of _Vast_ & _Memory_ *not* because of (or in spite of) your sex or gender. For almost no other SF author does gender seem to matter (I was going to say “no other”, but am not sure that The Dean RAH would have written what he did if he were she). For me, it’s just not an axis of discrimination (whereas misspellings, plot continuity, that sort of thing, they’re definitely discriminators).
