Let’s Do A Giveaway

Michael Patrick Hicks is a writer of thrillers and horror fiction, and also a reviewer at his own site, High Fever Books. I sent him an advance copy of Edges. He’s posted a very nice write-up, which you can read here.
In the review, he mentions the book came with “the slight warning that this was going to be a far different read than The Red books or her previous release, The Last Good Man.” And that is very true!
Over the years, I’ve explored different segments of genre and different styles of writing. Edges was a deliberate return to the earlier books. As I wrote it, I had in mind those who’d read and enjoyed the Nanotech Succession novels — and of course I am hoping to win new readers too!
But like Vast, Edges is not your usual space opera. I think that has caught some early readers by surprise. But if you like things a little bit different, maybe Edges is for you.

I have two proof copies of Edges that never found their way to reviewers. I want to give both away to readers of this blog.
My apologies to my international readers, but I have to limit the giveaways to addresses in the USA because of the astronomical cost of international postage.

I read the Red series and The Last Good Man. They were terrific. I read one Nanotech Succession book. Being a simple sort, I had trouble with a lead character who was quite unlikeable.
Nevertheless, you are a wonderful writer who deserves a wide readership. I wish you all the best.

Thank you, Jeff! The subject of unlikeable characters is interesting to me. I’ve failed to finish really popular books simply because I couldn’t stand a lead character. OTOH, there are lots of antiheroes — basically negative types — that I adore. Individual tastes are so variable. I hope you’ll enjoy spending time with the characters in Edges.

I listened to ‘Nahiku West’ on Clarkesworld, stopped in my local used book store and picked up a copy of The Bohr Maker, bought the Nanotech Omnibus when I was done with it, and recently finished The Last Good Man.
They put me in mind of many other authors, but almost nobody in the genre writes characters like Phousita.

Well this is embarrassing. I read something that you wrote a couple of decades ago and liked it enough to recognize your name when I stumbled across Book View Cafe. But… I can’t remember what it was. I don’t think that it was anything from the Nanotech Succession series. I just started The Bohr Maker and it’s not sounding familiar. I’d better get reading. I have some catching up to do.

Hello! I have meant to write you for quite a while. I discovered your work with The Last Great Man, then tore through The Red trilogy, the Bohr Makers, and onwards. I really enjoy your work, to the point where I visit your site regularly and you are on my mental list of Authors Whom I Look Out For New Books. I’m pretty picky about what I read, and rarely read rewiews; I have found most to be unhelpful and disingenuous. I really do enjoy your work, and I happily buy your hardback books because books should be held and carried and shelved and savored, not Digitalized. I would graciously accept your new book if you choose to give it to me; otherwise, rest assured I will buy it on its publication. Thanks.

Linda, congratulations on your imminent publication of Edges. I’m eagerly anticiping the release. I love your work, which is far superior to other SF books. Each book is better than the last.
