Blog problem
January 18th, 2021Yes, this blog has a problem. I noticed it yesterday when I put up the post about the Locus magazine review of Pacific Storm. Evidently something changed on the server, because all of my posts older than yesterday now display nonsensical characters where there once was an em-dash, a curly quote, etc.
This is an encoding issue. I’ve been pointed to a resource that describes a potential fix and someday soon I may take on the project — though I’m not convinced it’s worth the effort given that the older posts get very little traffic.
Anyway, I wanted to let you know I’m aware of it.

Hmm, not all of them? Only the “optimal” one it seems to me…

I’m still seeing the issue with all the apostrophes, but no longer with the em-dashes. I wonder if the hosting company is fixing it? That would be amazing.

Look to the right of the screen where is says Pages – About HahvA.net. There is a large A with a character over it, so it’s not just the text in the posts.

Yes, it’s everything that’s stored in the database. But that one was a quick fix. Thanks for pointing it out.
